The defender could miss the World Cup after sustaining a shoulder injury against Hull City last night.

With the Premier League coming to a close, most players will be hoping to stay injury-free as an injury sustained this late in the season will most definitely eliminate their World Cup contention. In England's case there are several players who will miss out on the tournament or is racing against time to be fit for the World Cup, with the likes of Theo Walcott, Jay Rodriguez and Andros Townsend out, while Kyle Walker is still recovering from pelvic injury.

You can add Phil Jones to those who will be sweating for his health. The 22-year old defender sustained an injury to his shoulder following a collision with Hull's Maynor Figueroa and was taken off in the 22nd minute. Here's what Manchester United interim manager, Ryan Giggs had to say:

"He knew straightaway he had done something."

"Usually when something like that happens it is not great."

Jones was rushed to the hospital straightaway for x-ray and further examination. With Roy Hodgson set to name his provisional England squad on May 12th, he must now wait and hope for a good news from Jones's x-ray scan. Jones has been capped by England nine times, and will be hoping to add to that tally in this summer's World Cup.
