Andros Townsend left the Britannia Stadium wearing a protective boot on his ankle, and moments ago the official Tottenham site revealed the young English winger is set to have surgery Thursday morning which will sideline him for up to 10 weeks. Unfortunately this means that the Spurs winger will miss the World Cup
Following further examination and consultation, Andros Townsend is to undergo surgery on his left ankle on Thursday (tomorrow) after damaging ligaments during our fixture against Stoke City last Saturday
This is a big blow for England who are already without Arsenal winger Theo Walcott. With Alex Ox still injured, England will be forced to think about alternatives for Brazil.
Townsend burst onto the International stage towards the end of England's qualification period with some energetic direct displays. However he has struggled to match that form for his club, constantly falling out of starting contention and experiencing a series of niggling injuries.
We wish him the speediest of recoveries.
