Phil Jagielka Ruled out of England Squad

Everton centre back out of Denmark friendly.

England will be without a familiar name today as Phil Jagielka has been ruled out of the Demark game with a hamstring injury. He will also miss Everton’s home match against West Ham this weekend.

It’s a bitter blow to jagielka with this being the last oppurtunity to impress ahead of the World Cup squad announcement. However he has been the partner of choice for gary Cahill during the qualification period, so you would expect his place to be safe.

Roy Hodgson will announce his squad this afternoon, and he is expected to name around 30 players, which is a large squad for a single friendly. However with this being Roy’s last oppurtunity to meet the players before he announced his World Cup squad he is taking every oppurtunity to look at as many as possible.

With Phil Jones also expected to miss out, this may give Chris Smalling a chance to stake his claim to a World Cup berth.
