English Transfer Rumours: January Transfer Week 1 Edition

Good afternoon gentlemen, we are into another transfer window which means rumours a-plenty. We have the first week wrapped up when it comes to the English players.

Shaun Botterill

Wilfried Zaha

An article revolving around English transfer rumours wouldn't be complete without mentioning Zaha. Well according to the Sunday Mirror, he is being targeted by Cardiff's new manager and ex Manchester United hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. At the end of the day he needs to go out on loan, as he is just festering at Manchester United. We have covered this several times this year, but now is the time to act. With Solskjaer having a good relationship with United after playing and coaching with the Red Devils this may be a logical suggestion. Solskjaer spent time coaching the youth at Old Trafford, so why not trust him with developing another promising player away from the club. Personally I think it's too late for Zaha to win a World Cup spot, but for the sake of his future career, moving to Cardiff would be a great decision.

Wayne Rooney

If Rooney doesn't sign an extension this year, he will head into next season with just one year remaining of his £250,000 a week deal. With United struggling and not guaranteed a place in the Champions League next year (yet), it seems unlikely Rooney will commit to the club for the peak period of his career. So the Daily Mail have revealed Chelsea are ready to make a £30 million swoop for the English forward if there are any complications with his new contract. This is always a tough one as I think Rooney will be successful anywhere he goes, but is he willing to take that chance? it certainly won't happen in January, so it won't affect the strikers status for the World Cup, but the contract may be a distraction this Summer.

Rickie Lambert

Lambert was a nice story, working his way up from the lower leagues, making his debut for England and then scoring with his first touch. However watching Lambert this season, I'm not sure he has international quality in him, and at 31 he's not getting any younger. However saying that, The Sun have suggested that Lambert wants to make a move to West Ham in this transfer window for £8 million, the Saints are willing to let him go, however before they let him they need to sign a replacement. Remember this is all rumour, and there are no facts, but If Lambert scores plenty of goals for Southampton or West Ham between now and May, well we're not exactly brimming with striker talent in this country so he could find himself on the plane to Brazil.
