England have fallen three places to 13th in the latest FIFA rankings following their November defeats to Chile and Germany. However the rankings will not affect the World Cup draw in December as FIFA will use the October rankings.
However for England, 13th is quite possibly a flattering position. England fell to 17th in September, which was their lowest position for 12 years. Wins over Poland and Montenegro and World Cup qualification saw England climb back to the top 10 before their recent defeats.
I pay absolutely no attention to the FIFA rankings at all. Portugal are 5th after needing a play-off to secure qualification. Colombia are 4th, but I don’t even think Colombian fans will argue they are the 4th best team in the World. Switzerland are ranked 8th and Brazil have fallen down to 10th with their lack of qualification games affecting their points total, as the home nation they did not need to qualify.
