As expected and noted here, both Michael Carrick and Danny Welbeck will not be taking part in the upcoming England friendlies against Chile and Germany. Carrick is experiencing continued problems with his Achilles and Danny Welbeck has experienced fluid on the knee.
The Football Association confirmed that Carrick and Welbeck will not be replaced. Which I for one find very strange. I know that we are late in the process, but there is still plenty of time to get a couple of fresh faces into camp to see what they can do.
This does however mean that we are more likely to see the likes of Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez. Roy Hodgson confirmed earlier this week that he saw Rodriguez as a natural replacement for the United Striker.
Both players will fancy their chances of being on the plane to Brazil, however missing any international games in a World Cup year is never ideal.
