England U21's Thrash Lithuania To Go Top

With all the excitement of England reaching the 2014 World Cup last night, we can't lose sight of the U21's progression in their 2015 European Championship Qualifying Campaign.

It was an excellent night all round for England last night as the U21 side dominated Lithuania at Portman road to move top of Group One in their quest to qualify for the European Championships in 2015.

Two goals a piece from Ravel Morrison and Saido Berahino ensured that England would finish the night sitting top of their group. Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse completed the scoring for Gareth Southgates side.

England enjoyed a comfortable night at Portman road, dominating possession with 71%, and they outshot their visitors by 21-3.

The young lions took little time to get into gear as Ravel Morrison turned in Wilfried Zaha's cross after just two minutes of play. Ward-Prowse joined in the fun with a 20 yard strike direct from a free-kick. Berahino scored with a curling effort from the edge of the box in the 63rd minute, with Morrison adding a sublime individual effort just 7 minutes later. Berahino completed the scoring from the penalty spot as Jack Robinson was brought down.

It was an impressive display by England with Tom Ince, Ravel Morrison and Saido Berahino all playing a leading role. However the opposition really wasn't up to the international standard as they rarely ventured into the England half and barely troubled young Jack Butland in goal.

With England booking their place in the 2014 World Cup there will be plenty of young lions hoping to impress ahead of the squad selection next summer.

England are joint on points with Wales, however they have played two less than their cross border neighbours. England will host Finland at Stadium MK on November 14th for their next qualifying game.
